Mashburn family pays it forward

Resaca Georgia mom Mendy Mashburn is paying it forward and bringing her children along for the lesson. Six years ago, Mendy and her family spent 30 days at the Chattanooga Ronald McDonald House while twin daughters, Casey and Kelly were in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger. Now her bundles of joy are healthy and active six year olds attending elementary school in Whitfield County.  Mendy’s lesson to her kids about giving back inspired her oldest son, Alex to lead a pop tab recycling drive at his school New Hope Elementary to benefit Ronald McDonald House.

“We stayed here when mom was having my twin sisters. We decided it (pop tab drive) was a great way to give back, “ said Alex Mashburn, 6^th grader at New Hope Elementary School.

This is the Mashburns second pop tab recycling drive this year. The Mashburns say they plan to make this annual event. Each classroom collected the pop tabs in gallon jugs totaling 150 pounds, a value of $75. The funds will help provide a one night stay for a Ronald McDonald House family.  Families stay on average of 15 days.  Each donation helps make it possible for families to stay close while their children get better and gain strength.
