Annika's Story

Good dental care is very much on the mind of seven year old Annika Watson.  Annika is a 2nd grader at McBrien Elementary; the school is one of 22 sites which the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile visits each year.  “My friends were so excited about my visit to the Care Mobile that they gave me hugs and hi-fives,” says Annika.

The 40 foot long state-of-the-art mobile dental unit provides full service dental care to children ages 5 to 21, who are without dental insurance or are on state funded insurance.   The services are provided at no charge right at their school site.  Annika’s mom, Kathy says the Care Mobile has been a very positive experience for her daughter.  “She’s more aware of taking care of her teeth and having fewer cavities and plaque,” says Kathy Armour, Annika’s mom. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile provides nearly $350,000 worth of free dental services to 1,800 children at 22 school sites each year.

During school breaks, the mobile unit travels to churches and recreation centers within Hamilton County and surrounding areas.  Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is a partnership between Ronald McDonald House Charities and T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital.
