Room of Hope - Allison's Story

Thirteen year old Allison Holloway’s terrifying collision with a car while on her all terrain vehicle (ATV) brought her and her family from Summerville, Georgia to Children’s Hospital at Erlanger in Chattanooga.  Remarkably, Allison suffered no head injuries from the accident but severely crushed her left leg.

“My world was turned upside down. I came to the hospital with nothing but my purse. The Ronald McDonald Family Room just off the ward inside Children’s Hospital is a room of hope.  It provided everything for us,” says Lynn Holloway, Allison’s mother.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a peaceful retreat within the hospital setting and provides a place for families to renew their energy, whether through a nap or bite to eat, a relaxing shower, the chance to do laundry, watch TV or catch up on e-mails from home – all close to their child’s hospital room.

“When your child is hurt, it’s hard.  The room was so calm and so clean. It lifted me up. The volunteers were so kind, they listened to my story.”  Lynn says she also found comfort from talking with other families who were going through a similar situation.

“We will forever be grateful to the angels that make the Ronald McDonald Family Room possible.”
